Maybe you are like me and you find that its hard to keep your productivity up while working on websites, doing simple things like coding, designing, or whatever you happen to be working on. I have created a list of 10 things that I do to try and keep my productivity up, maybe they can help you to!

  1. Close your instant messengers, there is no need to have them open they are only giving you a distraction from getting the work done you should be. If you worked at a company do you think your boss would like you sending/receiving messages from your friends?
  2. Stop browsing forums. You can waste tons of times looking at forums before you even realize you have done it. You may think your not wasting very much time buy looking at a few forum topics here and a few there but you really are. Time = Money!
  3. Close all social networking websites such as facebook, twitter, myspace or equivalent. This is one of the worst things for your productivity as they are very addictive and can suck up a lot of time.
  4. Setup a mini rewards program for your self. For-example if I do x amount of work I can take 5 minutes and check my emails, or get a drink, or take a break.
  5. Let things go and don’t dwell on the past, look forward to the future. Every day is a new day and anything can happen!
  6. Keep a detailed log of what you do in a day, and see where you are wasting time, try to cut out as much of the time wasting as possible and you will be well on your way to boosting your productivity.
  7. Try to make a formula for your self so you can make a productivity chart, for example say you work 8 hours a day, and you only worked for 5 of them, after those 5 hours you screwed around for the last 3 hours if you take those 5 hours and divide them by 8 you get 0.625 which = about 63% productivity which is not very productive. Try to figure out your productivity ratio for your typical day and try to make those numbers close to 100%
  8. Be organized, if you are not organized you will not be productive. You can waste a lot of time looking for things. If you are organized and know where things are you will save a lot of time keeping your productivity up.
  9. If you set a goal for your self and you don’t reach that goal do not beat your self up, look at what happened and why you did not reach that goal, try to find a way to get around the problem that made you not reach the goal.
  10. Make sure you are working on something you are passionate about. If you don’t have any passion for what you are doing you probably shouldn’t be doing it!

That sums up my 10 things to keep your productivity up, if you have anything to add to this list please feel free to leave a comment. If you liked this post feel free to sign up to the RSS feed as there will be many more posts coming in the near future!
